Projects are the instruments used to move organizations to a desired future state. Innate cultural resistance to any and all change exists to some degree in every organization. In 1995 OSU Medical Center and Grant Hospital merged their flight programs and created a new organization. Resistance developed to the new organizational leadership.
This presentation surveys the nuances of change in the context of a process improvement project to standardize the medical equipment used by 10 critical care transport teams in 8 separate locations using three types of helicopters and ground ambulances. The presentation begins discussing Levels of Change, Types of Change, and the difference between Context and Content Change. There is a brief discussion of the Basic Steps for Transformational Change at the Organizational Level. Then moves the more content oriented tactical nuances of change at the project or level by examining author “John Kotter’s” major mistakes made during projects facing resistance.
